Jerk Chicken Wings - Kelburn Village Pub, Kelbur

The Kelburn Village Pub does some pretty good food.  I've only ever ordered from their "tapas" menu which spans a fair variety of tastes and flavours.  These are little plates of food, yes, but they're certainly not restricted to the type of fare i'm told one might find across Spain.

My favourite of all they do here are their Haggis BonBons - though they weren't on the menu this evening so we sure missed out.  Luckily, given my previous missive regarding my compulsion to always order wings, the Jerk Chicken Wings are actually pretty darn tasty.

Having never been to the Caribbean I can't really comment on the authenticity of the spice & flavour, but I do love the sweet spices - i'm guessing cinnamon & allspice - which really balance out the heat of the chilli.  These are really tangy - lime juice i'm guessing - and sticky from the marinade.

They've got no crunch or really crispy bits which means they can't possibly be perfect in my book and what i'm guessing was Whitlocks tomato chutney was rather pointless, perhaps its there to cool the mouth for those who don't realise jerk = spicey but I didn't need it.  Even though its pretty much a guarantee i'll order wings every time that I come here, I can honestly say I won't ever regret ordering these.

Somewhere i've got a recipe for a Jerk marinade, its about time I found it and made my own Jerk Wings - here's hoping I can match, if not exceed, the culinary prowess exhibited by the Kelburn Village Pub.
